Men in the UK will be able to buy Viagra over the counter after consulting with a pharmacist and without a prescription for the first time today.
ViagraConnect manufacturer, Pfizer, estimates more than a fifth of men aged over 18 in Britain suffer from erectile dysfunction, but almost half of those over 40 have not sought medical help.
The erectile dysfunction drug will be available in 14,000 stores across Britain and via pharmacy websites.
The tablets will be available exclusively from Boots until 10 April.
Those aged 18 and over will be able to buy the tablets following a conversation with a pharmacist or after filling out an online form. Men can ask to speak to a pharmacist in a private consultation room if preferred.
The pharmacists will determine whether treatment is appropriate for the patient and give advice on erectile dysfunction, usage of the medicine and potential side effects. They will advise men to consult with their doctor no less than six months after buying Viagra so that any potential underlying conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, or heart disease can be investigated.
A Boots spokesperson said that the man affected by erectile dysfunction should buy the drug themselves wherever practically possible.
Men with severe heart problems, those at high risk of heart problems, liver failure, kidney failure, strokes or those taking certain other medicines, will still need to be prescribed the drug under the supervision of a doctor.
A four-pack of the tablets will cost £19.99 and an eight-pack £34.99.
Men who buy it will be advised that they can take a 50 mg tablet an hour before having sex, but should not use more than one pill a day.
Viagra is is already available as an NHS prescription free of charge for those eligible not to pay for their prescriptions.
The pharmacist will decide how many packs will be supplied in a transaction.

Viagra 50mg tablet contains an active component such as Sildenafil. This medication is used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED) in men. It contains the active ingredient sildenafil citrate, which belongs to a class of drugs called phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitors. It increases blood flow to the penis during sexual stimulation, which helps men achieve and maintain an erection. Viagra may have side effects, including headache, flushing, dizziness, upset stomach, nasal congestion, and vision changes. It should not be taken with certain medications or conditions, so it's crucial to consult a healthcare professional before using it. Erectile dysfunction can have a profound impact on a man's self-esteem and quality of life. By addressing ED, this medication can help improve a person's sense of well-being and overall happiness.
Individuals with a history of cardiovascular diseases, such as heart problems (angina, heart failure, irregular heartbeats) or recent heart attack, should exercise caution when using Viagra. The sexual activity itself can strain the heart and can further increase the strain by increasing blood flow. Consult with a healthcare professional to assess the risks and benefits in such cases. This medication can cause a mild decrease in blood pressure. Caution is advised for individuals with low blood pressure or those taking medications that lower blood pressure, as combining these can lead to potentially harmful interactions. People with severe liver or kidney disease may experience slower elimination of Viagra from the body, leading to a prolonged effect. Dosage adjustments may be necessary in such cases.
What is erectile dysfunction?Erectile dysfunction (ED) is a condition characterized by the inability to achieve or maintain an erection sufficient for sexual activity. It can result from conditions like heart problems, liver or kidney disease, or any traumatic events such as severe spinal cord or nerve damage. Understanding the condition may reduce the severity and duration of use. In this article, we will discuss the reasons for erectile dysfunction and its causes, possible side effects, and guidelines for using Viagra. We'll also discuss potential drug interactions, such as those with HIV and other medications that can cause erections (blood pressure drops).
When to use ViagraWhen a man is experiencing erectile dysfunction, it can be persistent and impactful. It's essential to exercise caution and consult a healthcare professional if you have underlying health conditions, including heart problems or a history of cardiovascular diseases. Viagra can be a powerful help in managing erectile dysfunction, as it helps to enhance sexual performance and sexual satisfaction.
When a man is sexually aroused, the release of nitric oxide is triggered, which leads to the production of adenosine. This substance inside the penis helps to relax the blood vessels, allowing blood to flow into the penis, especially a man's penis. The adenosine levels can be️ enhanced if a man is sexually aroused. Adenosine can range from −60 to +25 µg per tablet. The effects can last from 4 to 6 hours, and can last up to 12 hours. The duration of action typically ranges from one to three hours. However, it is important to note that this medication should not be taken if you're allergic to sildenafil or other PDE5 inhibitors, as this type of drug can cause side effects in some men. Avoid taking more than one dose per day, as this could increase the risk of side effects. In addition, maintaining a healthy lifestyle can help with erectile dysfunction, as excess stress can increase blood pressure and blood flow.
It can take a few weeks for the full benefits of Viagra to accrue. However, it is advised to consult a healthcare professional if you experience difficulty achieving or maintaining an erection that doesn't drop off quickly. The full effects can take up to four weeks for most men. Do not exceed the recommended dose, and avoid sexual activity if you're sexually aroused.

What is Erectile Dysfunction?Erectile dysfunction (ED) is the inability to gain or maintain an erection, sufficient for satisfactory sexual intercourse. It is a very common problem, affecting half of Irish men over 50.
Most men will experience some sort of difficulty in getting an erection over their lives. This difficulty for some men will only be a temporary problem and will often be related back to a specific set of circumstances such as stress, tiredness or even alcohol intake. Erectile Dysfunction is only a problem when it is persistent and recurring. While Erectile Dysfunction is more common in older men, it can occur at any age.
Erectile Dysfunction can also be caused by physical conditions such as Diabetes, uncontrolled High Blood Pressure and Vascular Disease (this is the narrowing of blood vessels) and can be an ‘early warning sign’ of heart disease. Erectile Dysfunction can also be caused by conditions that affect your nerves and hormonal balance. Psychological issues such as stress, depression and anxiety can also contribute to Erectile Dysfunction. In most cases Erectile Dysfunction is caused by a combination of both physical and psychological factors.
Since erectile dysfunction symptoms can vary, some men might want to speak to a healthcare professional before they begin to treat it. Speak to your GP or a pharmacist if you’re concerned about symptoms.
